From an early age it became clear that Rory McIlroy wanted to become a golfer, allegedly hitting a forty yard drive at age two, and putting his first hole-in-one at the tender age of nine. Growing up in Northern Ireland, McIlroy perfected his craft with the help of pro Michael Bannon. By the time he entered his teens, McIlroy became a known force both in Ireland and on the continent, representing Europe in the 2004 Ryder Cup. His career was on the up-and-up when in 2005 he became the youngest person to win the West of Ireland Championship and the Irish Close Championships, repeating his success the following year.
