Should Olivia Munn's Maxim cover be hidden along side Penthouse?

With Fox News jumping on the bandwagon of asking whether or not magazines should be censored, it's pretty obvious that the magazine in question shouldn't be censored. In fact, I think people should have to actually look at the magazine in question before passing judgment.
So there it is. Olivia Munn is, in fact, wearing lacy blue panties that are somewhat transparent but you have to truly be looking to see whether or not Ms. Munn is sporting a landing strip or hardwood floors to notice that her panties are actually transparent to a certain extent. So having a debate over a topic as frivolous as someone's underwear choice is ludicrous. If parents are truly worried about a third-tier magazine that isn't even displayed at checkout stands (you usually have to seek it out in magazine sections) then they need to re-examine their priorities.

For instance, try checking out wha tyour kids are seeing on TV and online. The violence they witness in those two mediums should alarm parents much more than the photo gracing a niche magazine's cover.

London 2012 Olympics: Althetes increase the resistance in training

As Spyns clients get excited about the holiday we have put together for them, athetes from around the world are increasing their training as the countdown to the Olympic Games builds momentem

Snow? What snow? Nothing was going to stop the British Fencing Team from attending our twice annual training camp for Elite and TASS (Talented Athlete Scholarship Scheme) athletes. Every late December we are invited to train at an army barracks somewhere in the north of England.
We stay in dormitories, sleep in military bunk beds, eat army food, run the bleep test and train our hearts out. It is a great opportunity for the British team to get together across all weapons (foil, epee and sabre) and look forward to the season ahead.
This year won’t be any ordinary season. April will mark the start of our Olympic-qualifying season and will be critical to our qualification for London 2012. It will soon be crunch time and these camps help prepare us for what is to come. So it was with a feeling of anticipation, though with some trepidation, that I approached the guard room on arrival to be security checked.
James Williams, an ex-Olympic fencer (sabre) himself, runs these training camps and knows all about the pressure that we will be under to perform next season. James, together with an enthusiastic group of Army personnel, fencing coaches, physiotherapists, psychologists and sports performance technicians helps ensure that we are given the best preparation available to allow us to achieve our goals.
If I am honest, the one thing I dread most about these camps is the bleep test. Also known as the multi-stage fitness test, we do it twice yearly to test our cardiovascular fitness. What I do like about it is the fact that every time we run it we have a bench-mark result to improve on with each camp. A lot of banter goes around before the test and I get the occasional ‘bleep’ whispered into my ear as a ‘sweet dreams’ the night before.
Happily, I enjoyed running the bleep test. I did well and beat my last result by a whole level which I am proud of. I have a sneaky suspicion this has something to do with the extra boxing fitness sessions I have been doing since Easter.
I think it is important to experience pushing yourself through some level of discomfort. It hardens you and prepares you for the toughest of fights. At elite level, you have got to train hard and at times, break through pain barriers. There are no shortcuts.
We also did some speed and agility drills, a plyometrics session designed to increase explosiveness in attack, pilates (great for the core) and of course, a lot of fencing. Our training sessions were broken up with psychology sessions and performance related lectures that reminded us of our Olympic goals. The camp also allowed me the time to go through my up-coming season with my coach Maciej Wojtkowiak and target the competitions I want to peak at.
I really enjoyed training with the full GB squad and catching up with my team mates. The closer we get to 2012, the more important it is to create a sense of team unity and togetherness.
That said, I was happy not to be snowed in for Christmas. Spending Christmas together in the barracks might have taken team bonding a step too far. I am looking forward to a short break so that I can re-charge my batteries and sharpen my sword for the start of the New Year.
I am determined to make this one a good one. Let the hard work begin.

Bob's Burgers had me at "itchy crotch"

Last night saw the series premiere of yet another animated comedy on FOX. When I first heard of this series nearly a year ago my first thought was "Oh, great. Another animated comedy. What mundane "Family Guy" character are they spinning off now?" But as I learned more about "Bob's Burgers" I warmed to the concept.

Think of it as a workplace comedy centered around a family. Right there the show's creators managed to meld two of the most tried and true sitcom concepts together into one genre which I don't recall having been done before. Right there they had an original concept.

From the first scene I was laughing. The series is one of the most politically incorrect shows in recent memory but it crosses the line without being deranged like "Family Guy" does. With a daughter which a sibling identified as "the worst kind of autistic" to jokes about the restaurant's burgers containing more than the allowable 4% ratio of human flesh and that was what the first episode centered around the pilot episode could easily be described as raucous -- right down to the opening joke about the autistic daughter openly stating that she had an itchy crotch.

Couple that with well thought out sight gags including a bus load of tourists hell-bent on obtaining one of these supposedly human flesh burgers at any cost and a customer who bought "The Molester" -- a burger that comes with candy -- who truly did fit the image of a child molester and "Bob's Burgers" was a twenty minute string of laughs which were well written and far from cheap and expected.

"Bob's Burgers" has a great start and fits well following "The Simpsons" which itself seems to have stepped up its game after twenty or so seasons. If the writers can keep the momentum up and FOX doesn't fuck the show up by shuffling its time period, this is yet another animated winner well worth watching at 7:30 PM on Sunday on FOX.

Are the London 2012 Olympics ticket prices too expensive?

As Spyns clients eagerly await their 2012 London Olympics tours, the London Summer Games organising committee is trying to bring order to chaos through "transparent ticketing". Funny how every Olympic organising committee pledges a fair and equitable games. Unfortunately year after year getting ticketing becomes an absolute feeding frenzy. Spyns offers London 2012 summer games tours with hotel, tickets, and sightseeing.
Taxpayers have stumped up billions to build the Olympic venues in London, yet with ticket prices of up to £725 for track and field finals, many will feel that only freebie-grabbing politicians and corporate hospitality guests will see the benefit. But are the London 2012 prices significantly higher than those charged at previous Olympics?

Compared to the Beijing Olympics in 2008, prices are certainly steep. Tickets for athletics finals in Beijing started from 200 yuan (£5.80), around a tenth of the minimum price demanded for London. But organisers say that given the much lower local incomes in China compared to the UK, it is fairer to compare prices to the earlier games in Athens 2004 and Sydney 2000.

But the figures suggest that even on this basis, London 2012 is very pricey. Athletics finals in Athens 2004 were a maximum of £255. Organisers have divided the athletics finals into two brackets – "finals" and "super finals" – with the latter covering the premium events such as the men's 100m final. The cheapest price for a ticket at a "super final" will be £50, but then it rises rapidly through the various seating brackets.

The best bargain for London 2012 is the opening ceremony tickets at £20.12, although quite how many will be made available at that price has not been revealed. In Athens and Sydney, minimum prices for the opening ceremony were much higher. But the best seats will cost more than £2,000 – four times the price in China and double any previous Olympic opening ceremony price.

A games spokesman said: "We finalised our pricing having gone through a careful process of benchmarking and analysis of previous games, other UK events and sporting events, as well as undertaking research. The desire has always been to balance our budget, but also to ensure that as many tickets as possible are priced in an accessible way and giving us full venues."

If you see the Olympics as a big yawn, yet live not too far from the action, then you should consider renting your property out. Tim Boughton of rental agency HomeAway Holiday-Rentals (holiday-rentals.co.uk) says homeowners could pick up as much as £2,000 a week.

"If the rental price rises seen in the South African World Cup are repeated, homeowners could generate an average of £4,500 by renting their houses during the 16-day event – an average of £2,000 per week," he says. "Even at this increased rate, holiday home rentals still often work out cheaper than similar standard hotels, making them an attractive option." But listing your home on the site costs £239 and any income from rents will be liable for tax.
